My Revolution has been a Revelation

January 1st may be the start of a new year, but  February 1st will forever be known as the start of something new for me. One year ago today, well actually 367 days if we want to be technical, I started my "Revolution". I was tired of being the cute little fat one and decided it was high time I made some changes in my life. I had been "introduced" to myfitnesspal.com about a month prior and finally made a commitment to use it, learning about exercise, calories and portion control. I have to say it was one of the best decisions I've ever made.
So here I stand one year later...almost 30lbs gone, my "good" cholesterol is up 23+ points, "bad" is down 14 points and I'm hopefully off the blood pressure medication for good.

I can't say it's been completely easy, there have been some struggles along the way...but I have adopted the attitude "every day is a new chance to get it right" and it's been a revelation. Learning portion size was a real eye-opener, I now have a food scale that I use all the time...everything gets measured! Exercise is also a regular part of my life, I try to workout 5-6 days a week, mixing up what I do. I ran my first 2 5ks, one in November and 1 in December and plan on running more this year. I've also signed up for the Warrior Dash in May...what the hell I was thinking I do not know! But I'm gonna give it a shot.

Making changes can be stressful and scary, but in the end so worth it. I don't know why it took me so long to finally get to the point I was last year, but I guess that's how it happens...when you're ready. I'm looking forward to new adventures this year and to seeing what 2013 has in store for me!
